Gibraltar is possibly the last unreleased track by the late Rikki Sylvan a much underrated musician in his day, but one who as the creative lead in his band Rikki and the last days of earth led the charge from punk to synth-pop Dave Thompson writing on AllMUSIC had some interesting things to say on both Rikki as a solo artist and producer and the band, for instance “Rikki and the Last Days of Earth exploded out of Britain’s punk underground in mid-1977, one of the most audaciously forward-looking bands of the entire era, and one whose output screams louder for re-evaluation with every passing year”

Rikki and Doc Stewart first met at CBS Studios where Rikki was a tape-op, then met up some years later when both producers were working out of London’s famous Tin Pan Alley Studios. Rikki put some synth on an album Stewart was producing, and Sylvan asked Stewart if he would produce a track for him. The track was done, but as both men were working on other projects it got shelved. recently the original analogue master tape has been found and the decision taken to release it to mark the 40th anniversary of Doc Stewart’s production career and 35 years of 1•11 MUSIC as a publishing and production company.
